Expect this year’s ANZAC Day, the 104th remembrance since the first ANZAC Day in 1916, to be different, but equally special, as the nation unites over the internet and by standing at our driveway or balcony to commemorate the brave Australian and New Zealand Army Corps who served, and sacrificed their lives, at Gallipoli in World War I.

While the parades and services we are used to attending will be no longer be carried out this year, the National Memorial Service at the Australian War Memorial will go ahead with TV and radio coverage to watch and listen to in the comfort of indoors or live on your device, and we invite you to join us in paying respects to this special day of remembrance

Join our essential guests and residents to commemorate here in Broadbeach on the Gold Coast, where we’re offering Queenslanders essential affordable short-term accommodation that’s fully furnished and complete with relaxing private balconies facing the beach and ocean.

In a short read, here are two quick summaries of the live coverage to expect by ABC and RSL Queensland this April 25:

ABC Anzac Day 2020

ABC will be broadcasting online, on TV and over radio this ANZAC Day, which will include the National Memorial Service, a history of the events that began on April 25 1915, personal stories from servicemen and women, and an evening message by Governor-General David Hurley.

A summary of ABC’s program will be as follows:

5.00am - ANZAC Stories (origins and personal stories) presented by Dan Bourchier
5.30am - National Memorial Service from the Australian War Memorial
11.30am - reflection time, The Ode, The Last Post and one-minute silence
6.55pm - Evening Address by Governor-General David Hurley

RSL Queensland Light Up the Dawn

RSL QLD’s Light Up the Dawn will also go ahead via an online audio stream, accessible on their website, which will involve a national acknowledgement, The Ode and The Last Post, a minute’s silence and closing commemorative music by Australian Army Band Brisbane.

Beginning at 6am, the full service will include:

Acknowledge of Country
The Ode by RSL Queensland President Tony Ferris
The Last Post by Australian Army Band Brisbane
Minute’s silence
Reveille (Australian Army Band Brisbane)
Advance Australia Fair (Australian Army Band Brisbane)
God Defend New Zealand (Australian Army Band Brisbane)

RSL Queensland is inviting all to pay respects on the balcony, driveway or front yard to signify togetherness in light of the ongoing crisis we are all facing.
