First night at Victoria Square: dinner without crossing the highway

by | Mar 1, 2026 | Location & Attractions

Your first dinner in Broadbeach is a seven minute walk at most. Five solid options sit on the beach side of the Gold Coast Highway from Victoria Square Apartments: a tavern that takes walk-ins, a surf club for early family meals, two of the suburb’s best-known restaurants, and woodfired takeaway for late check-ins.

Where should you book your first dinner in Broadbeach?

Distance: 4 minutes walk from Victoria Square Apartments

Directions: Walk down Victoria Avenue and turn into Surf Parade; Koi sits at number 89, two short blocks from our driveway.

Hours: Midday until late, seven days.

Koi has been Broadbeach’s special-occasion room since 2007, serving modern Australian food that lets Queensland seafood lead. Order the tuna crispy rice and the kingfish crudo to start, and reviewers describe coming back annually for the seafood platter alone. Tables for up to 14 book online, and on Friday and Saturday nights they’re gone by mid-afternoon, so lock yours in before you leave home. There’s a kids menu, but the room leans adults, all low light and slow courses. It suits a first night that doubles as a celebration.

Who takes walk-ins with no booking?

Distance: 6 minutes walk from Victoria Square Apartments

Directions: Follow Victoria Avenue to The Oasis and walk through toward the beach; the Broadbeach Tavern faces Old Burleigh Road opposite Kurrawa Surf Club.

Hours: Bistro 11.30am to 9pm daily; the bar trades from mid-morning until very late.

The tavern is the no-plan plan, and every visitor needs one on arrival night. The bistro does steaks, fresh seafood and pub classics alongside share platters, and the venue’s own line is “book a table or walk in”, which tells you the queue moves. On a Saturday night you might wait for a table at peak, but you won’t be turned away, and kids are welcome in the bistro through the early evening. It suits the family that landed hungry with no reservation and no interest in making one.

What about early dinner with the kids?

Distance: 7 minutes walk from Victoria Square Apartments

Directions: Straight down Victoria Avenue, cross at The Oasis, then through Kurrawa Park; Kurrawa Surf Club sits right on the sand.

Hours: Bistro lunch 11.30am to 2.30pm and dinner 5.30pm to 8.30pm; the pizzeria runs all day, 11.30am to 9pm.

Dinner at 5.30pm with the beach still glowing is the surf club’s home ground. Order off the bistro board or go the pizzeria; pizza, ribs and seafood get the votes in reviews, and guests keep mentioning how quickly generous plates hit the table, which matters enormously with tired children. The park grass beside the club gives kids somewhere to burn the last of the day while you finish a quiet drink looking at the water. It suits families, early risers planning a dawn swim, and anyone who measures a venue by its view.

What suits a slower dinner for two?

Distance: 6 minutes walk from Victoria Square Apartments

Directions: Social Eating House + Bar is on Oracle Boulevard, the restaurant strip that runs parallel to Surf Parade, midway along the row of alfresco terraces.

Hours: Lunch 12pm to 3pm and dinner from 5.30pm till late, seven days.

Social is built for the unhurried version of arrival night: share plates with layered flavours, inventive cocktails and a banquet option where the kitchen simply sends out its best dishes. That banquet is the smart order when you’re too travel-tired to make decisions. Dinner runs later here than at the clubs and taverns, so it also fits couples who checked in at eight and still want a proper table. Book for weekend nights; midweek you’ll usually find a spot on the terrace. It suits date nights and grown-up celebrations.

Who feeds a late arrival?

Distance: 5 minutes walk, or delivery to your door

Directions: Gemelli faces the Gold Coast Highway from the beach side, a few minutes up from the Victoria Avenue lights, so no crossing is needed.

Hours: Dinner from 5pm until late every night; lunch Thursday to Sunday from midday.

Gemelli is the answer to the 9pm check-in. The pasta is handmade daily with Italian 00 flour and free-range eggs, the pizzas come out of a woodfired oven, and the wine list has earned recognition from Gourmet Traveller Wine. When the flight lands late, order takeaway online or through Uber Eats and eat on your own balcony twenty minutes after dropping the bags. It suits late arrivals, big family orders and second-night encores once you’ve tasted the gnocchi the first time.

First-night dinner FAQs

Do Broadbeach restaurants take walk-ins on weekends?

Yes, several do. The Broadbeach Tavern welcomes walk-ins every night, and Kurrawa Surf Club seats bistro diners as they arrive. The smaller restaurants like Koi and Social Eating House hold tables for bookings on Friday and Saturday nights, so reserve those by mid-afternoon.

What time do kitchens close near Victoria Square?

Most bistro kitchens near us wind up around 9pm: the Broadbeach Tavern bistro closes at 9pm and Kurrawa Surf Club’s dinner service ends at 8.30pm, though its pizzeria runs to 9pm. Social Eating House and Gemelli both serve later, so aim there after a late check-in.

Can you get dinner delivered to Victoria Square Apartments?

Yes. Gemelli takes takeaway orders online and through Uber Eats, and most of the Broadbeach dining strip is on the usual delivery apps. Given the restaurants start four minutes from our front door, plenty of guests just walk over and carry dinner home warm.

Is everything really on the beach side of the highway?

Yes. All five venues in this post sit east of the Gold Coast Highway, on the same side as Victoria Square Apartments, so the walk to dinner crosses nothing busier than Surf Parade. Save the highway crossing for Pacific Fair and The Star another night.

That first dinner in Broadbeach sets the tone for the whole stay, and from our front door it’s a short, flat stroll in thongs rather than a drive. Check our apartments and rates to book your Broadbeach base, and see our Location page for how close everything else sits to Victoria Square Apartments.
