Surfers for two: a grown-ups’ city-beach weekend

by | Oct 1, 2026 | Location & Attractions

Two nights, no kids, and everything within a walk or a short ride of Victoria Square Apartments: that is the shape of a grown-ups’ weekend at the quiet southern end of Surfers Paradise. Here is the plan hour by hour, from Friday gig night to Sunday brunch, with the two bookings worth making in advance.

How should Friday night start?

Drop the bags, pour the arrival drink on the balcony, then head 15 minutes south by car or rideshare to Miami Marketta. The Gold Coast’s original creative precinct runs Wednesday to Saturday from 5pm with free entry: a street food alley where you graze across stalls rather than commit to one menu, bars pouring local beer and cocktails, and live music on the Cargo Stage most nights. It is standing-room energy rather than white tablecloths, which is exactly the right first-night gear. Arrive by 6.30pm for a table near the stage, budget a mid-band spend for two across food and drinks, and check the gig listing before you go; ticketed shows sell ahead.

What does Saturday look like?

Slow. The flags at Kurrawa Beach are a six minute walk from our door, and an early swim on patrolled sand with coffee after it is the whole morning sorted. If you want movement, the Oceanway path runs north along the dunes to the Surfers Paradise flags, about 25 minutes each way, flat and quiet before 9am. The afternoon splits by temperament: browse Pacific Fair’s 400-plus stores a 14 minute walk away, hold a daybed by our pool, or start the evening early with a late-afternoon walk through the Broadbeach dining blocks to scout tomorrow’s brunch spot. October days sit in the mid twenties, so the sand-to-shower-to-dinner rhythm runs without a jacket. The car, meanwhile, can stay in our garage from Friday to Sunday: the G:link tram from Broadbeach South covers anything north, and everything else on this itinerary is on foot.

Where should Saturday night go?

Over the Casino Drive bridge. The Star Gold Coast is a flat, lit 12 minute walk from Victoria Square Apartments, and the grown-ups’ version of the night starts at Kiyomi, the Japanese dining room that has held a reputation as one of the coast’s best restaurants for a decade. Reviewers rate the miso-glazed toothfish as the dish to build the night around, and the set menus and omakase suit a night with a curtain time. Book a week or more ahead for Saturday, two hours before any show at The Star Theatre, where the 2026 programme mixes touring comedy, musicals and live music. Dress smart casual, skip the gaming floor until after the encore, and walk home while the car park queues.

What about Sunday morning?

The one non-negotiable: a last swim before checkout. Then breakfast done properly in the Broadbeach dining blocks, two minutes from our door, where the cafes open early and the pace is unhurried on Sundays. If your weekend lands on the first or third Sunday of the month, the Broadbeach Art and Craft Markets run in the Kurrawa foreshore parkland from about 8am, a seven minute walk, and a browse through the stalls with a takeaway coffee is the gentlest possible landing. Late checkout is worth asking about when you book; a 10am flight home and a 7am beach are compatible here in a way few city weekends manage.

What are the two bookings that matter?

The Saturday dinner and the show. Everything else in this weekend is walk-up: the beach has no gate, Miami Marketta takes no reservations, the markets are free and the Oceanway never closes. But a Saturday table at Kiyomi and seats to the touring name at The Star Theatre both sell ahead, so make those two bookings the day you confirm the apartment, then let the rest of the weekend stay loose. That mix, two fixed points and 46 unscripted hours, is what guests tell us makes this corner of the coast work for a weekend built for two.

Grown-ups’ weekend FAQs

Is Surfers Paradise good for a couples weekend?

Yes, especially from the quiet southern end where Victoria Square Apartments sits. You get the city-beach mix that makes the weekend work: patrolled sand six minutes away, the Broadbeach dining blocks two minutes away, The Star a 12 minute walk, and live music at Miami Marketta a short ride south.

Do restaurants book out on Saturday nights?

The good ones do. For a Saturday table at Kiyomi or the other signature rooms at The Star, book at least a week ahead and set the reservation two hours before any show you are seeing. The casual Broadbeach dining blocks hold walk-in space, but 6pm to 7.30pm is the crush.

What is Miami Marketta like for a date night?

Easy and loud in the right way. It runs Wednesday to Saturday from 5pm with free entry, a street food alley where you graze rather than order one meal, bars pouring local beer and cocktails, and live music most nights. No reservations needed; arrive by 6.30pm for a table near the stage.

Is October a good month for this weekend?

One of the best. The water is warming toward summer, days sit in the mid twenties, and the school holidays end in the first week, so from mid October the beaches and restaurants settle back to a relaxed pace. Book the Saturday-night table and show first, then build the rest around them.

A weekend for two runs best from an apartment: a balcony for the arrival drink, a kitchen for the slow Sunday start, and the whole city-beach corner within a walk.
